Robin Auld

Robin joined The National Skills Academy team in October 2008 as Capital Project Manager, having spent most of the year working in Paris as Creative Director on a number of product launch events.

Prior to this Robin spent over 10 years working as an Art/Creative Director on films and launch events, including Art Supervisor on the 3D animated feature film Tale of Despereaux (London, 2007), and Supervising Art Director on the feature film 10,000BC (Namibia and South Africa, 2006).

Other roles have included Associate Designer for The Silver Rose (Munich, Bavarian State Ballet, 2005), Dusty-The Musical (Melbourne and Sydney, 2005), Creative Director/Executive Producer Audi South Korea launch event (2004-2005), and while living in Paris from 2001-2004, Art Director and Costume Designer for the series The Question of God for PBS television (Dublin and Prague, 2001). Other work has included launch events for Parfum Christian Dior and a fashion parade for Thierry Mugler. In 2000 Robin was Staging Director for the Stage Musical Pure Imagination in Kuala Lumpur and was a technical designer for the 2000 Olympic Games closing ceremonies. From 1996-2000 he designed a number of television programmes in Australia including the award winning Hi-5.

From 1993-1995 Robin was a Scenery Workshop Director for The Australian Opera, and from 1986-1989 he was Assistant Designer at The Royal Opera House. This was followed by three years working in the West End, culminating as a free-lance Production Manager at The Royal Opera House.

Robin has diverse experience in the education sector, first with The Royal Opera House, and then at numerous schools and teachers' conferences for The New South Wales Department of Education. Robin wrote and taught a module for teachers for The University of Sydney (1998-2001), and taught across the design degree course at The University of Wollongong. From 1996-1999 Robin was a member of ‘The Flying Squad’ – a small team of drama specialists who offered support and resources to schools in remote areas of New South Wales.

In 1998 Robin co-created a performance piece called Creatures of the Sea with students from local high schools as part of The Manly Festival, and in 2005 he was project artist for Holroyd City Council, Sydney, where he developed a permanent sculpture in a local park with the local community. Robin has also been a Technical Advisor on a number of public art commissions for North Sydney & Marrickville and South Sydney councils.

Robin trained as a fine artist before taking a degree course in theatre design at the National Institute of Dramatic Arts in Sydney.
